Amaya sat there shivering as she welcomed the darkness of the nights cold grasp. The events that had taken place only hours ago flashed in small frames through her mind.

Wind and rain against the ripping sails whipping violently, bright flashes of the lightning touching the mast like deaths finger beckoning all to follow. The waves of the ice cold water and stinging salt making all aware of what little feeling they still had. The creaking and snapping of the of the wood deafening the cries of the children holding on for their lives. The white haired half elf that tried his hardest to get to the children and save them from their fate. The two giant waves that closed in front of him like the curtains after a final act, except no one came out to bow to the audience. And her own screams, silent yet ear-splitting screams that drowned out everything this gnome was now trying to say to her.

She sat there, staring forward as a blind man would stare at a play. She saw nothing going on around her, all she knew was...” I couldn’t protect him, he....he’s gone...” The words pierced her heart deeply as she passed out again.

“Arrr, the Lass has had a rough time, but she be coming ‘round. Have ye figured out who this Kumori fella she be tossin’ about be?” The ships captain turned to the gnome, hoping he had a way of helping the poor Half Elf.

Shin-fu stared at the calm sparkling waters deep in thought. His long white braid whipped in the salty breeze. He wondered if the young half elf would survive the stress of the ordeal. Resigning his thoughts to the scruffy human, Shin-fu turned to the captain. “I believe it was her brother.” Shin-fu said with the low high-pitched voice only a gnome could have. “I will watched over her when we get to the island. Im hoping she will come around by the time we arrive.”

Amaya stood in the open doorway of the Captains quarters looking out at the scarring sunlight and listening to the gnomes words. He had more lines on his face than the wood of the ship, but his voice had more energy in it than a twenty year old wood elf. All she wanted now, though, was to find Kumori. "He can't be dead." The words made the tears come back, just the very thought that she might not find him was too much.

“Arrr, I see ye be awake young lass, and lookin a bit less peckish than ye have been.” The Captain had turned just in time to see the tear streak down Amaya's cheak. He had no idea what to say, all he could do now was try to make her feel a bit more comfortable.

The red and purple haired half elf sat at the small wooden table across from Shin-fu, as the Captain leaned against the wall near the window. Sipping her tea that the gnome had made her, Amaya noticed, both, Shin-fu and the Captain watching her and knowing they wanted to ask her questions. She sat the cup down on the table with a sigh and looked out the window across the sparkling waters, as if hoping to see Kumori running towards her with a trail of small animals chasing him as the yelled for help.

“Kumori is....was my twin brother, and I’ve always had to protect him since we were small kids. Back then he would always coming running around a corner with a couple of small angry mice trailing right behind him.” She said, with a saddened laugh. Holding the small cup in hands, she stared blankly into the steamy liquid. “But the one time he tried to protect someone, I was unable to save him.” She watched the ripple in her tea from the single tear and swore she saw a reflection of Kumori behind her. She stood up fast to turned around , but suddenly became aware that the table was nailed to the floor when she painful crashed into it and quickly found her chair again. The Captain rushed over to see if she was alright, all the while trying not to laugh. She raised her hand and told the Captain she was fine, except for the little bit of embarrassment she felt. “Be careful lass, we be havin ta nail everythin down so it don’t be runnin into us.” The gnome cocked his head to the side and looked Amaya curiously in the eyes. “ You know, there are some who have claimed to divine the present and the future in nothing more than a cup of tea.” He said in his squelchy voice. Her eyes widened and a renewed hope started burning in her heart. “Where are we headed anyways?”

We be headin to the Isle of Refugee’s outside Qeynos. We should be arriving shortly . It will be a few days before ye’ll be able to head to Qeynos, but I be hearin there be some folks needin a hand around the island. Can earn yourself a little silver before ye head into the fair city, and maybe some proper clothes.

The loud voice of the dwarf echoed all over the ship “ LAND HOOO!!!”
