Khlarity stalked the halls quietly...She'd heard a noise and was sure the robbers had returned. Unfortunately they would shortly find themselves looking at the wrong end of a very mean greatsword. Creeping past the room that contained the Omen Spires she paused and looked in, out of habit checking for her long lost friends. The cool blue flickering of Aili's portal spell was all the greeted her and she felt a familiar sense of loss and longing come over her.

Khlarity had been the last to hear of the portal spell, and the last to arrive - to see her friends get ported to who knew where. But it wasn't ONLY the three in the spires who had been lost. As the spell had turned on Aili at the last moment, it expanded beyond the spire boundaries and sucked in any who were too close. When the explosion of magic had stopped only half the room remained...and then all hell broke loose. Khlarity had stood stunned at the doorway, approximately the same spot she stood in now.

In the weeks, months and years that followed there had been an exodus. Several guild members followed their leader into the portal, despite her protestations that they stay. Others had left the hall to seek knowledge elsewhere, going on long adventures in the hopes of uncovering tomes that might help them understand what had happened. In the end, Khlarity was the only one left. She had sworn to watch the halls and keep them safe for any who chose to return or who sought refuge and in the recent years, that had been many.

Stories were flooding in about violent acts from the Gods, who were repaying terrible retribution on those who defied them. Cities across Norrath were flooded with those trying to seek refuge from new and horrific beasts who were appearing on the open lands. Qeynos and Freeport had taken the largest brunt of the impact, swelling beyond their already massive sizes and packed with humans. Plague ran like wildfire through the cities, and many were sure this too was an act of the gods. Khlarity shuddered...she felt fortunate she had the guild to call her home.

Remembering her task at hand, Khlarity crept down the halls towards the clanging noises. She could hear the soft whispers ahead of her. She was no longer a young woman, in truth her old friends would probably not recognize her, but age had not dulled her senses. Her Erudite blood kept her sharp and wise beyond her years. Two young men, careless with their weapons and too comfortable with their surroundings, were trying to loot some of the Hall's valuable artifacts. With a smirk Khlarity pressed her blade to to small of one man's back.

"I suggest you drop it" she hissed into his ear. The man froze and looked to his companion. Fool hearty and confident beyond his seasons, the other young man grabbed his sword and brandished it at Khlarity...But before he could even get a swing in his skin began to melt off his body. He screamed in agonizing horror as he realized what she really was. That was the last sound he made before his lifeless body hit the floor. The man at the end of her blade stiffened.

"Please...please" he begged "We just needed money. My family...they are in Freeport. They are starving!" Khlarity softened for a moment.

"Why did you come here?" she asked "There are other more honorable ways to earn money"

"The cities are flooded. There are no jobs...If we dont die of the plague we starve because there is no money or food to be had!" he wept and she released him.

"This Hall is not where you want to be. These artifacts are not items you want to trifle with. The men and women who recovered them were seasoned warriors, wizards and healers, and many of them could barely contain the magic they hold. Find somewhere else to pillage"she responded softly, commandingly. Though her eyes had softened she sharply picked up on his greedy glance at the swords on the walls. One of them was her own Jagged Sword of the Dragon Slayer...And it truly was hers. No other could handle it without suffering grave consequences. She waited a moment, and to her sad lack of suprise he lept to grab it. Khlarity did nothing to stop him.

The man turned to run, but only got a few steps before he dropped the sword and screamed in pain. He grabbed the wrist of the hand that had been holding her sword...huge boils beginning to pop out. Before both their eyes the boils sprang up along his arm, rapidly spreading across his body. Within seconds he was covered, one even demolishing his eye. As he continued to scream he began to cough up blood which spattered the walls and rug in the hall. Moments later he fell forward, dead on the ground. Khlarity sighed, she missed the days when people actually listened to advice. Leaning down she picked her sword up which hummed softly in her hand and placed it back on the wall. Glancing out the window she paused... There was something odd about the night.

Luclin had long been shut off from the rest of the world. Rumors had it a great battle ensued...but noone knew exactly what had happened. She listened intently...it was quiet. That dark kind of quiet that proceeds something terrible. And then it came...the earth shook. There was a loud ripping sound and Khlarity knew that it was the ground. No energy, no earth, no magic...MAGIC!

She raced back down the hallways to the spires. The glowed a fearsome red as the walls shook harder. Small sparks began to crackle off the top and suddenly Khlarity knew. She knew this would be her last chance. She paused, indecisive at the door. Who would look after the hall? Dust shook from the ceiling and a large crack opened along the wall. After this, there might not be a hall. Khlarity closed her eyes and said a small prayer...to whom she cared not. The portal began to shrink...With a final act of courage she ran into it....and the world gave way beneath her feet.
