Portent Alliance went in and took care of an ornery blue dragon aspect...

There's no corpse for him, but Alexstrazsa comes along to speak with the group and makes for a good photo opportunity...

First, she comes along and speaks with PA:

Oh Alexstrasza! What phat lewts you have! (Gown of the Spell Weaver and Barricade of Eternity went to Ailinea and Xendayr.)

Next, she's kind enough to pose for a group photo...

And finally, she posed for one of her own before we say goodbye:

Not the first time we downed the dragon.  (The FIRST time, Leo blew up the body before we got a screenshot!)  But we definitely had an easier time of it tonight.

So here's PA, posing with our undead dragoncicle:

We also did the entire Construct wing and Kel'Thuzad, but more on that in the weekly post...

The problem with doing our raiding early in the week is that I was so excited that I reported most of the exciting stuff already.  But at least I had some pictures.

We tried taking down Malygos last night.  Got the bastard down to 8% on our best try, but it still was not enough.  While we're disappointed, we KNOW we can get him the next time we go in.  It took us a while to really get to know the fights...sure, we all read the strategies and watched the videos, but it's *different* when you're actually in there.  We discovered we could have used a little more DPS during the first two phases, and that would have given us a little more time before the enrage timer.  If we had that extra DPS to shave off some time, we would have had him.  But now we can safely say we have the first two phases down.  The third phase isn't hard, just takes some practice.  So this week we're going to be doing more work with the Aces High! daily quest to get some more training in.

I sincerely believe that the next time we go in there, we will be coming out victorious (and Leo WILL have video of the winning fight!).  It was a wonderful learning experience last night, and we discovered where we needed work.  What also impressed me was that despite our tiredness and frustration, our post-raid dialogue was incredibly supportive.  It was a team collaboration of figuring out how to tweak our specs and re-gem or re-enchant gear, or even where to get new upgrades, so we can bring Malygos down on our next trip in.  I really love seeing the guild come together like that for each other.  We had that camaraderie in EQ1, it was missing in EQ2, but I feel like it's back and stronger than ever in WoW.

As for the rest of the week, we've all been taking our time doing heroics, getting faction, and...wow, come to think of it a lot still has been going on!

Qoholeth and Sheiky both dinged 80, and we added Decayen and Hayte to our ranks.  That brings us to 19 level 80's, and only one is an alt.

Seeing the numbers swell is making us all gain more interest in possibly dipping our toes into 25-man content.  Before this can happen, mind you, we need to get the new 80's geared up and are running heroics to do so (and planning raid rotations to give new 80's a fair shot at that gear too).  But we've noticed we still have a nice balance of people.  It's looking really good to have two squads of 80's running Naxx per week until we get a few more (either members or friends of the guild) to try a 25-man.

On the lower end of the level scale, Team Level Appropriate busted down the doors of Shadowfang and evicted Arugal.  Xenshi even walked away in his robes.  Black Fathom Deep is next on the hit list!  (We need a new name for that group, I think....)

And I, uhhh...became a Grand Master Baiter.  Yes, I am one of the crazy ones who LIKES fishing and got my skill to 450.

Tonight we go back in to Naxx and start clearing from the Spider Wing again....

Reflections: The "Naxx DOWN!" Edition PDF Print E-mail

It's 4 am so I'm going to make this "short" (for me) and edit it later.

People started coming back from vacations on Monday, so Tuesday we put together a Naxx raid. We went in there at 8 am. Took out Spider wing, first 2 bosses in DK wing, then ran through Plague wing. We got The Safety Dance achievement on Heigan, which really pumped us up. Then we went back to the DK wing and 1-shotted the Horsemen!

Well then...it was time to move to the Construct wing. We took down Patchwerk in 5:01 minutes...beating our time from the last time we engaged him by 50 seconds. (Yes, first time we took out Patchwerk, we downed him with about 10 seconds to spare before things got nasty.)

Still on an adrenaline rush, we decided to go after Grobbulus. He had given us trouble in the past, but we changed tactics a little bit. There were a few deaths, but we finally managed to get him down much easier than we ever had before.

It was past midnight at this point, but no one was tired. So we decided to give Gluth a try. It took us a few tries to get the hang of the fight, but kudos to Leo for kiting around the puppy chow, then taking one for the team. Gluth down!

After all that, Thaddius was relatively simple. We had a few technical difficulties on our first attempt (disconnects, etc.) but managed to down him easily on the second. That is the type of fight that the Portents excels at. Such fun!

We then took the portal...into Sapphiron's Lair. I think only Jez had her resist gear on her at the time, so we ran in for gits and shiggles. We saw how the fight worked, but knew we wouldn't get through it that night. We posted a notice that we would be back with our resist gear, and headed out.

But were we tired? Not at all! We saw the Horde had Wintergrasp, so we headed over to the Vault of Archavon and giggled our way through an Archavon the Stone Watcher kill.

By the end of our run that night, it was 2 am and we realized there were only 4 (10-man) raid bosses we hadn't yet taken down.

Fast forward to today. Everyone came prepared with their frost resist gear, and we first headed to Sapphiron. It took us a few tries, but finally downed him. Then came Kel'Thuzad. Everyone agreed that, despite a few wipes as we got used to the fight, he was easier than Sapphiron. What's left? Obsidian Sanctum? We headed over and one-shotted Sartharion too.

We have pictures. Need to find them and upload them, though.

Notice has been sent to Malygos: He's next.

Also of note:

  • Khlarity, Lydra, and Zeeboo all hit 80, as did Grissle's warrior, Calael. Sayriha also decided to get a PA tattoo on her forehead since she's been running with us, so that brings us to 15 level 80 characters in guild.
  • Xendayr, Ailinea, Jezriyah, Leoloren, and Sayriha managed to nail the first successful timed Heroic Culling of Stratholme run. Leo managed a nice roll on the bronze drake mount. Expect to see him flying over Northrend on it soon. We hope to put that one on farm soon.
  • I can't remember all the other Heroic runs we've been doing, especially since there have been multiple groups running at the same time. But let's just put it on the record that Heroics have been happening very often and very successfully. One night, we even had a group (with a few people switching out) that did 6 Heroics in a row. There was much caffeine involved, but it was a great night.
  • I think I (Ailinea) managed the insanity that was attaining the first Ambassador title in guild.  Correction:  Campitor beat me to the Ambassador title, but that's okay.  It's still no modest amount of insanity.  Grats, Camp!
  • A bunch of people are hitting exalted with other factions. A few members are ready to buy red drake mounts for Wyrmrest Accord, but are trying to save the money first.

It's 4:30 now...screenshots coming soon. =)
